Brazilian firm Velloza, Girotto e Lindenbojm Advogados Associados SC has announced the promotion of two tax lawyers – bringing the total number of partners at the firm to 15.
They are Fernanda Junqueira Calazans, whose practice areas are tax and direct tax, and Leonardo Augusto Andrade, a specialist in tax litigation.
Calazans previously worked at KPMG and will become one of the partners responsible for international taxation and taxation related to financial and capital market transactions. Andrade, who started at the firm as an intern 11 years ago, joins partners in the tax litigation team lead by Luiz Girotto.
While recently expanding its corporate practice, particularly in M&A, Velloza Girotto is still widely recognised in Brazil as a tax firm – with an eight-partner team handling a wide variety of matters.
In 2009 Velloza Girotto advised in Banco do Brasil’s US$2.35 billion emergency acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in Banco Votorantim in the midst of the global financial crisis. In recent months, the firm advised controlling shareholder of Brazilian shoe retailer Arezzo, in raising US$340 million in a successful IPO in February.
The firm has offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, with the latter two specialising in tax advice.
