White & Case LLP, through its New York office, and Brazil’s Veirano Advogados have helped Sapient, the third largest US advertising agency by digital revenue, enter the Brazilian market through the acquisition of a stake in i-Think Comunicação e Publicidade, Brazil’s largest independent digital advertising agency.
Sapient paid an undisclosed amount for the 81 per cent stake in i-Think, which was advised by Velloza & Girotto Advogados Associados. The deal closed on 16 January.
The acquisition forms part of Sapient’s push to have a presence in all the BRIC countries, as well as to tap into anticipated demand for digital marketing services in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Veirano Advogados partner Sergio Bronstein notes that the most challenging aspect of the deal was ensuring that the interests of the selling shareholders, which became minority stakeholders through the deal, were protected.
